Riding along a single lane carriageway, travelling at the legal limit of 60mph. I noticed a cyclist on the far pavement (sidewalk), pushing his bicycle.
As I neared, he looked both ways and started to cross the road, even though I was approaching where he was crossing.
Had he seen me, and was judging to cross after I'd gone by? Or, had he not seen me or misjudged my speed? I didn't know.
Discretion being the better part of valour, I braked hard so that I could stop before his crossing point.
In the end he waited until I had gone by, but I firmly believe I took the correct action. Remember, even though they look straight at you, they don't necessarily see you.
